Spruce up your festive beverages with this delicious and unique shrub mixer. Also known as sipping vinegar, a shrub can brighten and enhance a cocktail or mocktail with its blend of sweet and tangy.
Kara Ibarguen
Ingredients
1 ½ C Sugar
1 ½ C Apple Cider Vinegar
1 ½ C Pomegranate seeds
2 tsp Fresh Ginger, minced

1, 5” strip Alaria Leaf
Directions
Heat and stir the Vinegar and Sugar in a saucepan over medium heat
Add the Pomegranate, Ginger, and Alaria
Simmer for 5-10 minutes
Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to cool at room temperature
When it is cool enough to handle, strain the solids using a sieve or cheese clothe
(Optional) Reserve some of the pomegranate seeds and alaria for garnish
Bottle the mixture in clean jar(s) and refrigerate
Allow the jar(s) to rest in the refrigerator for 2-4 days before mixing into drinks
Recipe Note
To mix the Cocktail:
Fill a highball glass with ice. Add 1 1/2-2 oz Vodka or Gin (we highly recommend Barrens Sugar kelp Vodka), then 1 1/2-2 oz Alaria-Pomegranate Shrub. Top off with your favorite plain or flavored Seltzer or Cub Soda. Stir and garnish with pomegranate seeds, if desired.
To mix the Mocktail:
Fill a tall glass with ice, then 3oz of the Shrub. Top off with your favorite plain or flavored Seltzer or Club Soda. Stir, garnish, and serve.
